We all know how important it is to be able to look forward to certain things. It is the small but so significant joys of daily life in the form of traditions and rituals that bind us together and symbolise the transience of time for us.

For many families, Christmas is one of the most precious and oldest traditions of all. The daily opening of the doors on the Advent calendar, baking biscuits or decorating the Christmas tree together, small rituals help us to pause and be a child again for a moment....

A very special ritual during the Christmas season is smoking. The scent of precious resins and herbs then wafts through the rooms and frees them from the ballast of the past year. This ancient Christmas ritual takes place from 25. December to 6. January during the „Rauhnächten“.

Christmas time is the time of lights, of pausing, of giving and accepting, of taking a breath....

We from the ECRI NEWS TEAM wish you
Merry and blessed Christmas, moments of silence, perhaps to read this poem:

In breathing there are two kinds of grace:
To draw air into, then out of, your space.
The one presses down, the other refreshes;
Thus marvelously life’s web intermeshes.
You thank God whenever he hems you in,
And thank him whenever he frees you again.
(Johann Wolfgang von Goethe)
