  • ℹ️ Welcome to ItI!

Click for details Key learning goals are: - know how information, hardware, software make computers work - learn how to use the Linux shell to navigate through folders and files - understand how to structure and style information using XML, HTML, LaTeX In LSI both students from Biomedicine and informatics come together. This introductory course is aimed at Biomedicine students. If you already heard most of the concepts in the mindmap above, you can start directly with the exercises. This course will be held by me, [Gökçe](https://aydos.de/uni) #### Class Time & Room This course only takes place in winter semester. Refer to [Thabella](https://thabella.th-deg.de/thabella/opn/pdf/page/LSI-1) for class time and room #### Online participation You can also participate online: [📡 Online class room](https://bbb.jitsi.rocks/b/gok-6lp-gzd-xvn) #### Class Recordings Should be available in the evening after each class at [📡 Online class room](https://bbb.jitsi.rocks/b/gok-6lp-gzd-xvn) -> room recordings. (*The videos got deleted, please use the Nextcloud link*) Alternatively you can download the videos on [Nextcloud - iti-WS2021-videos](https://nextcloud.th-deg.de/s/7GAtprya7JM7gKZ). Other students can be seen on the videos, so the files are not freely downloadable. Ask me for the password. If your browser cannot play the videos, download them or try another browser. #### Textbook & slides We will use my [ItI slides](https://mygit.th-deg.de/lsi/iti-notes/-/jobs/artifacts/master/browse?job=build). The PDFs are linked to individual subjects below. Most of my lecture notes are based on [Prof. Till Tantau's lecture notes — Einführung in die Informatik](http://www.tcs.uni-luebeck.de/en/mitarbeiter/tantau/lehre/lectures/EinfuehrungindieInformatik-2016.pdf) #### Linux shell We will often play with Linux shell in this lecture. For shell access you can use our Jupyterhub server at [jhub.th-deg.de](https://jhub.th-deg.de) #### Instructor's expectations - if you have questions about lecture content or exercises, take these steps: - search for your question on the internet - ask your question: - here on Moodleoverflow - or use the Glossary if you want to stay anonymous - or ask it on sites like Reddit, Stackoverflow, or Quora You are encouraged to respond to the questions. I will answer unanswered questions in the class. - prepare next class'es topics using the textbook or online course. Your instructor wants to concentrate on your questions and group exercises during the class rather than pure lecturing. - you do not have to come to the class. You can also use the recordings if you prefer studying alone at your own pace. - online room etiquette: - please set your status to `away` if you are not there or do not want to participate - if your sound equipment does not have echo cancellation and you do not have headphones on, then mute your microphone after speaking to avoid echo #### Exam Written exam 45 min (+ Biomedicine 45 min.) A practice exam can be found below. Imperative programming is not part of the exam. ##### Additional studying resources: - [Introduction to Computer Systems—Saylor Academy](https://learn.saylor.org/mod/book/view.php?id=22047) – You find the table of contents on the right side. Online course chapters other than the networks should be relevant for our course. - e.g., contains an introduction to number systems and binary: https://learn.saylor.org/mod/book/view.php?id=22047 - [Software Carpentry — The Unix Shell](https://swcarpentry.github.io/shell-novice/) – about shells - [Introduction to Information Technology - Rajaraman](https://www.phindia.com/Books/BookDetail/9789387472297/introduction-to-information-technology-rajaraman) – I did not read this book. The book contents suggest that the book covers our first lectures. - Check out [Software Carpentry](https://software-carpentry.org/lessons/) and [Data Carpentry](https://datacarpentry.org/lessons) for additional courses about Unix Shell, Git, Python, R, Genomics data analysis - [edX](https://edx.org) and [Coursera](https://coursera.org) contain free courses from well-known universities. - [Directory of open access books](https://doabooks.org) contain references to free books. - [OER Commons](https://oercommons.org) is a search machine for open educational resources.
